Accenting your Wood Looking Tile

Magnolia Burl

We have been working tirelessly with our customers for awhile now with how do you accent your wood looking tile. Not just doing a pattern like a herringbone or off setting the wood, but using a design or accent like we have done with other tiles before. Some of our customers were looking for the old wood working designs that they have seen in older homes with real wood floors. They did not want to use marble and granite to accent their homes but the variation of wood grains and colors instead. Something to compliment and accent their choice of flooring instead of removing the illusion of a wood looking floor.

We tried using wood looking material from all of the factories that we deal with and came up with a few that are the right thickness together as well as the right color combinations. The overall effect when they are done gives even our classic medallions a new feel using wood looking tile.

The wood grain that is these accents helps draw your eye to them as well as giving the depth and contour that one expects from wood. Further adding to the illusion of this being a true wood floor instead of it being a tile that looks like wood. But come on in and see for yourself if you need further convincing.

Longer Planks for Wood Looks

Magnolia Cherry

Magnolia Cherry

One of the trends in wood looking tile that is becoming prevalent is the longer style planks. The 6 inch by 24 inch is still around and being used. But more and more people are looking at putting the 32 inch, 36 inch, or 40 inch long planks down on the floor. The 32 inch and 36 inch planks tend to have the most success of the longer style of wood looking tile. With the longer size the variation and movement in the glaze can be seen more and give you a more realistic wood looking floor. Some of the factories are even varying the width of the wood looks. Manufacturing different wood looks in 6inch, 7 inch, 8 inch, and 9 inch in the 32 and 36 inch length.

Some of the designers, and our customers are using the varying width in the larger wood looking tiles together. Using two of the widths with the larger wood planks gives the wood looking tiles a even more realistic look than just the one size by itself.

When we add that with the high definition technology used by some of the factories we have a even wider variation and movement with the two widths and the larger size. Even using the digital printing technology the two various widths still gives the appearance of a very realistic wood looking floor.

Updating your Kitchen

Taconic Slate Gold Summit

One of the most common upgrades everyone wants to do in their home is the kitchen. Appliances, counter tops, back-splashes, cabinets, flooring, dishes, it seems like the list can go on forever if you let it. But there is hope. If you are building your home the easiest thing you can do is take your flooring and put it underneath your cabinets. The reason you will want to do that is if you decide later on to move your cabinets adding more or removing parts of them you don’t have to redo your floors when all you want to do is change your cabinets.

Kitchen Backsplashes for 2015

Silver (Polished Travertine)

Silver (Polished Travertine)

The hottest new looks for kitchen back-splashes for the 2015 season is the 3×6 subway tiles. Glass is still popular but the old fashion thick 3×6 ceramic tiles are making a big splash into the market. Even stone and glass is becoming available in the 3×6 sizes for the back-splash.

The thick subway tiles are the original classic look for kitchen back-splashes. Back when tiles were hand pressed and hand painted. These thicker ceramics are using old fashion technology for making ceramics but using 21st century glaze applications to make a bold new look that is perfect for the traditionalist and the modernist for their kitchen back splash.

One of the nice things with the thicker body subway tiles is the easy with how you can incorporate stone without the thickness of the stone being substantially thicker than the tile. Allowing you to accent your back splash with pieces of your granite counter top.

Even if you keep it a solid color with no other trim pieces or decorations. The thicker ceramics lend themselves to more depth and variation than the standard subway tiles that are being massed produced in solid colors that you can find so easily at Home Depot and Lowe’s.

Walk in Shower Ideas

Thrill Rock

Thrill Rock

One of the many new and wonderful ideas for tile is the walk in shower. Such a wonderful concept and it eliminates that ugly ring around the tub. It also makes your bathroom wonderfully open and luxurious as well.

If you are thinking of building a walk in shower, or remodeling one the first thing you will need to consider is the shower pan for your walk in shower. Which will mean 2x2s or 3x3s tiles to build your shower pan if you do not want to have pebbles, or other different mosaic tiles to be put in your walk in shower. Why is that you may be wondering? The reason is pretty simple actually. The pitch of your shower pan for your walk in shower needs to allow the water to drain. So you need a tile small enough so you can slope the tile down and have the shower drain properly. Otherwise, you will have drainage issues or a puddle of water that will sit in your walk in shower.

Luckily, here at Designer Tile Plus we have 2x2s and 3x3s available in many of the tiles we stock and show in our showroom. We also have surface bullnose in many of the tiles we stock so you can have a beautiful finished clean edge for your shower. With all of this available you will find no need to try and match or find complimentary trim pieces or 2x2s to go with your wall tile. Your walk in shower project can be as easy as any building or remodeling project can be for you.

Grey Tiles Las Vegas

Thrill Frost

Thrill Frost

One of the greatest fashion trends in flooring is grey. Grey tile has made a big splash in the Tile industry and in the Las Vegas area. One of the biggest trend is the 12×24 grey tiles. Even some of the more traditional looks done in grey and the 12×24 size lend themselves to a very modern look. Even the traditional marble look that you get with the Thrill Frost has a very modern look done in the grey and rectangle size. A very rich and classical look that looks very modern and contemporary floor when compared to the traditional square tiles, in the browns and beiges. That have dominated the market for so many years.

One of the newer looks that is becoming popular and is striking when done in the grey tones is the limestone look. A very modern look that can lend itself to any type of decor and can go with a more traditional style of home and can also make the transition to a more modern looking home.

Even wood looking tiles are coming out with more grey tones that lend a very modern look with the ever popular wood looks. Blending the two styles in new and interesting ways and creating even more possibilities for the more modern, or contemporary looking home to choose from.

Matching Tile with Designs

Roth Star

Roth Star

The Medallions and Decorative Pieces that we make over at Designer Tile Plus, we would like to think of as unique. We like to think of  them that way because our customers have a choice in the colors and the size of the Medallions and Decorative Pieces. This allows our customers to match the color and theme of the tile they are using to their designs.  Such as going for a more modern look or going for the more cooler tones such as the greys. Which is very popular right now for the more contemporary or modern looking home. Or going the more traditional colors of beige and browns. Or instead of going with greys or browns you decide you want more color such as red.

Grandeur Elegant Amber

Changing the colors of the Decorative Pieces and Medallions to better suit the colors of the tile will give a better flow and allow for them to stand out better on the floor as you flow throughout the house. Using accents in the brown and beige colors will stand out in a grey floor but probably not in the way you would like.

When we change the colors on the Medallions and Decorative Pieces the different colors and the placement of them will give the whole design a different feel and look. and before we send the medallion or the decorative pieces out to your home we let you come in and take a look at them and give your final approval. Allowing you one last chance to change the colors before they leave and make their way to your house to be installed.

Accenting Your Tile Floors

Eternal Star Decorative Piece

Eternal Star Decorative Piece

The biggest space besides your walls in your home is the floor. And a sea of floor tile on your floor can be overwhelming for anyone to consider. Such a large area with only one color or design can be boring and uninteresting. But it does not have to be this way. Putting in Decorative Pieces, using liners, and listellos are a great and effective way of adding depth and interest into your floor at a very minimal cost. Allowing you to accent and draw attention to areas of your house such as going down your hall, or highlighting your new dining room table.

Tuscania Verde

Tuscania Verde

With a liner or a listello you can give the appearance to a throw rug on your floor that is simple and elegant. And if you change the way the tile is set you can do away with trying to keep the grout lines matching up on both sides of the liner or listello.

Putting in a Decorative Piece occasionally when you are doing your floor can sound like a tall order if you are worried about cutting the corners and putting the decorative piece and getting them all squared up. But luckily we make them so we have the capability of making them the same size of the tile. So no cutting is required at all. Just leave the space open and put the decorative piece in place of the tile.

Las Vegas Wall Tiles

Gallant Carrara

Gallant Carrara

One of the many things that is easy to remodel in your home is the bathroom. Whether in stone, ceramic, or procelain tiles the difference between the really nice tiles and the cheap tiles is only a couple hundred dollars. But the difference in the completed project between the cheap and the expensive is dramatic.  The hard part is when you are doing the walls in tile is finding a finishing piece such as a bullnose instead of having the raw edge of the tile showing or the raw edge of the stone. Giving your bathroom an unfinished look when you are done tiling your bathroom walls.

Botticino Classico

Botticino Classico

But as luck would have it at Designer Tile Plus we have trim pieces such as bullnose available in our wall tiles and floor tiles that we stock at our store in our warehouse. And we are set up to bullnose our stone and re-polish it so it looks perfect when it is installed. Even if you do not want to bullnose your stone we can flat polish the stone so you don’t have a raw edge and it looks finished when you are done with the walls.

But if you are thinking of dressing up your bathroom even more you can always trim out your wall tiles with contrasting colors or taking your granite or marble counter top and seeing if it comes in a 12×12 and  cutting it into 2, 3, or 4 inch strips and bullnosing the edge and trimming your wall tile out that way. If you would like to see more ideas come on down to our showroom at 6290 South Pecos Road Suite 100 in Las Vegas, Nevada and see what else you may want to consider for your bathroom.
