Longer Planks for Wood Looks

One of the trends in wood looking tile that is becoming prevalent is the longer style planks. The 6 inch by 24 inch is still around and being used. But more and more people are looking at putting the 32 inch, 36 inch, or 40 inch long planks down on the floor. The 32 inch and 36 inch planks tend to have the most success of the longer style of wood looking tile. With the longer size the variation and movement in the glaze can be seen more and give you a more realistic wood looking floor. Some of the factories are even varying the width of the wood looks. Manufacturing different wood looks in 6inch, 7 inch, 8 inch, and 9 inch in the 32 and 36 inch length.

Some of the designers, and our customers are using the varying width in the larger wood looking tiles together. Using two of the widths with the larger wood planks gives the wood looking tiles a even more realistic look than just the one size by itself.

When we add that with the high definition technology used by some of the factories we have a even wider variation and movement with the two widths and the larger size. Even using the digital printing technology the two various widths still gives the appearance of a very realistic wood looking floor.

Grey Tiles Las Vegas

Thrill Frost

Thrill Frost

One of the greatest fashion trends in flooring is grey. Grey tile has made a big splash in the Tile industry and in the Las Vegas area. One of the biggest trend is the 12×24 grey tiles. Even some of the more traditional looks done in grey and the 12×24 size lend themselves to a very modern look. Even the traditional marble look that you get with the Thrill Frost has a very modern look done in the grey and rectangle size. A very rich and classical look that looks very modern and contemporary floor when compared to the traditional square tiles, in the browns and beiges. That have dominated the market for so many years.

One of the newer looks that is becoming popular and is striking when done in the grey tones is the limestone look. A very modern look that can lend itself to any type of decor and can go with a more traditional style of home and can also make the transition to a more modern looking home.

Even wood looking tiles are coming out with more grey tones that lend a very modern look with the ever popular wood looks. Blending the two styles in new and interesting ways and creating even more possibilities for the more modern, or contemporary looking home to choose from.

Matching Tile with Designs

Roth Star

The Medallions and Decorative Pieces that we make over at Designer Tile Plus, we would like to think of as unique. We like to think of  them that way because our customers have a choice in the colors and the size of the Medallions and Decorative Pieces. This allows our customers to match the color and theme of the tile they are using to their designs.  Such as going for a more modern look or going for the more cooler tones such as the greys. Which is very popular right now for the more contemporary or modern looking home. Or going the more traditional colors of beige and browns. Or instead of going with greys or browns you decide you want more color such as red.

Changing the colors of the Decorative Pieces and Medallions to better suit the colors of the tile will give a better flow and allow for them to stand out better on the floor as you flow throughout the house. Using accents in the brown and beige colors will stand out in a grey floor but probably not in the way you would like.

When we change the colors on the Medallions and Decorative Pieces the different colors and the placement of them will give the whole design a different feel and look. and before we send the medallion or the decorative pieces out to your home we let you come in and take a look at them and give your final approval. Allowing you one last chance to change the colors before they leave and make their way to your house to be installed.

Accenting Your Tile Floors

Eternal Star Decorative Piece

The biggest space besides your walls in your home is the floor. And a sea of floor tile on your floor can be overwhelming for anyone to consider. Such a large area with only one color or design can be boring and uninteresting. But it does not have to be this way. Putting in Decorative Pieces, using liners, and listellos are a great and effective way of adding depth and interest into your floor at a very minimal cost. Allowing you to accent and draw attention to areas of your house such as going down your hall, or highlighting your new dining room table.

Tuscania Verde

With a liner or a listello you can give the appearance to a throw rug on your floor that is simple and elegant. And if you change the way the tile is set you can do away with trying to keep the grout lines matching up on both sides of the liner or listello.

Putting in a Decorative Piece occasionally when you are doing your floor can sound like a tall order if you are worried about cutting the corners and putting the decorative piece and getting them all squared up. But luckily we make them so we have the capability of making them the same size of the tile. So no cutting is required at all. Just leave the space open and put the decorative piece in place of the tile.

Kitchen Floor Tiles

Taconic Slate Gold Summit

Taconic Slate Gold Summit

One of the most common areas everyone wants to tile is a Kitchen. Carpet, Laminate, Wood, Vinyl, and Linoleum all seem to go out the door and everyone wants to have ceramic or porcelain tile floors. It is easy to see why with laminate and wood when the warranties that you get with them are sometimes voided when you put them in the kitchen to begin with. Carpet is a bear to try and keep clean when you cook with grease and oil. Vinyl, and linoleum are easy to keep up but they wear faster than a ceramic or porcelain tile.

Maltese Porto Cream

Now if you are doing your whole house keep the tile the same in the kitchen as you are everywhere else. If you want to accent your kitchen from the rest of your home look at your backsplash or add in a decorative piece or two. Try not to switch tile sizes or tiles in your kitchen because you think the area is too small or because a different tile looks better in one room. Let your house flow from one room to the next if you are doing it all at once.

When you are looking at tile for your kitchen if you are doing it separately from the whole house I would suggest trying to pick the going with a slightly darker grout color after you have picked out your tile. Mostly because you are constantly going to the kitchen and a slightly darker grout color will make it easier to maintain than a lighter color.

Popular 12×24 Tiles in Las Vegas

Aventis Cotton and Aventis Nut

The New Fashion Trend in Tile is no longer square tiles but rectangles. The most popular is the 12×24 tile size that people are using on their floors. 18x36s and 24x48s are also being used as well. But the easy installation of the 12x24s make it the most dominate size sold today.

18x18s and 16x16s are still being sold but the difference is the 12x24s give you a more modern look than the traditional square tiles. The difference between using a 12×24 than the traditional 18×18 is a quarter of a square foot so you are not adding tons of grout to your floor with going with the 12x24s.

Urbanite Gild

Many of the more modern looks that are available are only available in the 12×24 format verses the 18×18 or 16×16. Some of them are available in the 20×20 and 24×24 format but not all of them are. So if you are looking for a more modern looking floor the easier selection is in the 12x24s than an any other size.

Even if you decide to go with the more traditional square tiles on the floor. The 12×24 is the most dominate of the tiles being used on the walls. It makes a dramatic statement on the walls as it does on the floor. And compared to the 3x6s 4x4s and the traditional 6x6s that you see on the walls it is stunning to see, and with the fewer grout lines much easier to clean and maintain.

Tile Patterns with Decorative Pieces

Grandeur Elegant Amber

One of the Best things when we are doing tile patterns is how easy it is to use Decorative Pieces with them. Making a Decorative Piece the size of the tile. No cutting or waste is involved when we make our decorative pieces that way when you are laying your tile and they are very easy to install.

The other nice thing is if you are putting a medallion in your home it is very easy for us over at Designer Tile Plus to incorporate the Medallion Design into your Decorative Pieces. Giving your home a nice easy way of keeping everything uniform instead of trying to mix and match designs and looks with your tile.

To help our Customers we usually try and tell them for their homes to never put the Decorative Pieces no closer than one in sixteen tiles. That way it gives you a better chance of not covering them with furniture when your project is completed. In some homes it may even be better to go one in twenty or more depending on how much furniture you do have.

With just a few of these designs inserted into your floor your home will no longer be the same as other homes it will be as unique as you are.  Because at Designer Tile Plus you can choose the colors, design, and size of all our Medallions and Decorative Pieces, making them truly one of a kind.

Porcelain Tiles or Ceramic Tiles

Fontana Terrina Clay

Fontana Terrina Clay

Porcelain Tiles. You hear it everywhere when you are shopping for flooring. This tile is porcelain, that tile is porcelain. It can make a person wonder is everything porcelain and is it better than ceramic tile? The answer is…It depends on the application. Porcelain Tile by the definition in the Flooring Industry is that porcelain tiles are frost resistant and will absorb less than one half of a percent of liquids on the bisque of the tile. The bisque of the tile is in referring to the actual clay of the tile. If you are interested in doing something outdoors porcelain is the way to go. For indoor use there really is no difference between a ceramic tile and a porcelain tile.  You will be better off choosing a tile that you like and that you love to go into your house  whether that is a ceramic or a porcelain tile is up to you.

Braided Medallion

Braided Medallion

If you are worried about chipping the glaze application on the tile you can always check what it is rated for.  Glazes are rated as a I, II, III, IV, or V. I and II deal with wall tiles and decorative trim pieces a manufacturer might be using on the wall and cannot be used on the floor. For your house a Glaze Application of a III or better is suitable for anywhere in your home. For light Commercial projects you need some rating as a IV or better is good. For Heavy Commercial traffic you need to use  a tile with a glaze rating of a V.

But when you are shopping look at the colors you want to go in your house and see if the porcelain tile or the ceramic tile you are looking at has those. That is the more important thing than if the tile is porcelain or ceramic.

Wood Looking Tile with Stairs in Mind

Magnolia Cherry

Magnolia Cherry

Lately everyone who seems to be looking for wood looks in tile seems to be doing at least one set of stairs. With Wood Looking tile if you are in search of making the tile look as realistic as possible and you do not want to make it look tacky or to go looking for some wood trim to try and match with your wood looking tile you need bullnose. A surface edge bullnose gives you a nice clean look that matches your tile and gives you a nice rounded edge that is simply perfect when you are going up your stairs. And with Florida Tile one of the benefits is that they make a bullnose with their wood looks. Making them in either a 3×24 or a 4×24 inch piece depending on the series you are looking at.

Berkshire Hickory

Now as you may go around town you will find that not all wood looks or other tiles come with a bullnose but Florida Tile makes a bullnose with all of their tiles and since they are based out of Louisville, Kentucky, worst case scenerio we can order it and have it within 7 days. In our minds at Designer Tile Plus this is wonderful becasue we are no longer trying to match or coordinate wood looking tiles with something else to go up stairs at all. Now all our customers have to do is pick the wood look they like and if it’s Florida Tile we use the bullnose that comes with it and go up the stairs.

Las Vegas Listellos

Topeka Beige

Topeka Beige

Listellos seem to be all the rage today in Las Vegas. Luckily we make them here at Designer Tile Plus. Though we tend to call Listellos, borders or liners here. We create them in marble, granite, travertine, and occasionally even in tile. We try not to make them in porcelain tiles or ceramic tiles because of the occasional chipping you may get when you cut them into small pieces.

One of the great things when we make the listellos, or borders, is the fact that we can change the width or the border with usually retaliative easy. One example of this was we had a customer come in and bought some of our borders to go in a few of her doorways allowing her to break up certain rooms. We were able to expand and shrink the design she choose to fit her needs and her doorways exactly.

Borders are wonderful for transitioning between flooring, and between different tiles. But if you are doing the projects as you can it may be difficult to use the listellos or borders from Home Depot, or Lowe’s. You may have to travel to three or four stores. Or it may not be available when you are doing the next phase of your project. But here at Designer Tile Plus you are ordering, and buying the design that you want, the colors you want, and the size that you want. You don’t have to wonder if it will work or kind of go with your floor or tile. It will go with your tile and flooring.
